Baby Gulli

Only sleeping in the pram and terrified of the cot.

The main goal for Gulli’s parent was for him to be able to self-settle and sleep in his cot. He had been born with a heart condition but the doctors had given him the all-clear to treat him like a normal toddler.

At 18 months he was sleeping in his pram or co-sleeping. He was waking multiple times overnight and his parents had tried leaving him to protest but he only got worked up and more upset. Gulli’s lack of sleep meant his parents were exhausted and at breaking point. All they wanted was for Gulli to sleep more independently and to make him love the sleep he needed.

Pram sleeping

Every time Gulli was put to sleep in his cot he seemed terrified. The only places he was happy to sleep were his pram or his parents’ bed. But his parents knew that him sleeping in his pram was becoming unsafe. It was leading to Gulli being overtired and harder to settle. He wasn’t getting the sleep he needed to help him be well-rested and happy.

Solutions

As Gulli was waking in the early part of the evening we worked together with an Evening in – home consultation. Before my visit, we got Gulli familiar with his cot and made it a positive and happy place. We worked on the below:

Making the cot a happy place

  • Making the cot a happy place, getting them to play in it and having a positive association.

  • Have a sleep time friend or comforter will help your little one adjust to their new surrounding.

  • Looking to transfer them when they are asleep from the pram to the cot.

  • Starting off with a few naps in the cot and then slowly adjusting night sleep to the cot as well.

With these small changes, we could already see Gulli adjusting to his new surrounding. He was happier to be in his cot and this helped him learn to self-settle and for him to sleep independently. We used a gentle technique and as the days went on Gulli began to sleep for longer and the pram and co-sleeping were a thing of the past. His parents were on board with all the changes and Gulli really embraced it. Gulli now sleeps more soundly and is a more well-rested and happier toddler.

We called Aprilla on our last hope to hep our son sleep independently! She delivered on so many levels that my husband and I actually said hi and smiled at each other today. The routine suited our lifestyle and even adapted to our very hectic day to day routine, she even came out to the area of Camden with not even a question, I still have no idea how she drove home at midnight the 1.5 hour drive cause I was sleeping soundly because so was my little boy.
